Tuesday Tips. Bras Linked To Breast Cancer?

The theory explaining these findings is that the bra, an elastic garment designed to alter breast shape, applies constant pressure to the soft breast tissue, compressing and constricting lymphatic vessels. Evidence of this constriction are the red marks and indentations in the skin left behind by the bra. Since the role of the lymphatics is to flush out toxins and debris from the tissues, impairment of lymphatic flow can lead to the toxification of the breast tissue. These toxins include endogenous toxins resulting from the consequent tissue hypoxia, as well as the exogenous toxins that contaminate our food, water and air in our polluted world. Many of these toxins are carcinogenic. The bra concentrates these in the breast by preventing the lymphatics from flushing them away.
  • 3 out of 4 women who wore their bras 24 hours per day developed breast cancer.
  • 1 out of 7 women who wore bras more than 12 hour per day but not to bed developed breast cancer.
  • 1 out of 152 women who wore their bras less than 12 hours per day got breast cancer.
  • 1 out of 168 women who wore bras rarely or never acquired breast cancer.
So the difference between 24 hour wearing and not at all was 125-fold!

Bra-free women have about the same incidence of breast cancer as men.

It is well known that the established risk factors for breast cancer only explain maybe 25% of the cancer cases. In other words, about 75% of the women who get breast cancer do not have any of the typically mentioned risk factors such as earlier history of breast cancer, smoking, or early menarche. Maybe wearing an ill-fitting bra (or even just any bra?) is a risk factor that could explain much of that 'unknown' variation!

Bra wearing may also be connected to cancer in other ways.  Wearing bras slightly increases the temperature of the breast tissue, and women who wear bras have higher levels of the hormone prolactin.  Both of these may influence breast cancer formation.

Many people say that bras causing breast cancer is just a myth.  It is true that bras do not cause breast per se, but ill-fitting, too tight bras can help cancer growth since they can prevent your body from excreting dangerous cancer-causing chemicals. And, as bra industry and even Oprah have noted, 80%+ of women wear the wrong-size bra.

Ladies, next time you take your bra off, look at yourself in the mirror. You might see red lines on the sides and/or underneath your breasts, and marks on your shoulders from the straps.  This is not a good sign, the lymph flow might have been been cut off.  Push-up bras and those with underwire or high side panels have even more constricting effect on the lymphatic vessels. It's time to buy a better fitting one. Also try give your breasts free time from bras every day - if possible at least 12 hours.  Your hubby will love you! :)

All of this may sound far-fetched... your doctor may have never heard of it, but the evidence is there. Preventing breast cancer should be a very important matter for all of us. Drastically reducing the amount of time your breasts are bound in bras and being conscientious of only wearing well-fitting bras are easy steps to take that might save you a fortune in medical bills, and even your life!

The truth is we don’t know what causes breast cancer. It could be a mutation in the BRCA gene or your anti-perspirant deodorant, a lack of emotional connection to your feminity or not having had a baby by 30 and breast-feeding it for 2 years. There are so many possibilities but no smoking gun. But this fact does tell us one thing – cancer is most likely caused by a myriad of factors; if it wasn’t we would know were it came from by now!

True or not I'm gonna let the girls go free more hours a day!

2. Do you make your bed everyday?
3. How often do you go to the hair salon?
4. What do you dip your French fries in?
5 Do you shop with coupons?

---------------------------------------------------------------
My Answers!

1. What is your favorite kind of potato chip?

Ohhhhhh! Potato Chips! Yum! My favorite would have to be Middlesworth BBQ! Not sure if they are sold nationwide, but around here they are #1!!
 2.  Do you make your bed everyday?

I sure do!  I can't get in it unless its made!  And I'm particular about how its made...it has to be perfect...then I get in it and mess it all up again!  :)
 3.  How often do you go to the hair salon?

I have highlights and so I have to go every 6-8 weeks.

 4.  What do you dip your French Fries in?

I dip my French Fries in either Ranch Dressing or Cheese!
 5.  Do you shop with coupons?

Ugh!  I used to until I started working full-time...I know I could be saving tons of money but I just can't find the time to do it!  If you have any suggestions, please let me know!

HAVE FUN!

Marriage...

Joe and I have been married for 24 1/2 years!
Plus we dated 5 years pior to getting married!
With Venti getting married it really makes me think back to when I got married myself.
Photobucket

I think about all the up and downs we have been through...
All the happy times...
All the sad times...
I think about everything we have share together and all the memories we have created...
I think about the family that we made...
I think about all the parenting we have done...and what we did right..and what we did wrong..
I think about how our choices will effect how our sons lives...
I think about how each of us has changed...
I think about how different we are from when we first got married..to what we have become today...

I think about how we have changed mentally...and physically...
I think about how Joe looks now then he did the day we got married...
I see the lines of age on his handsome face..
The roughness of his hands from work...
The sweet smile that now has tiny lines beside it...
The head that used to have thick soft hair that I loved to run my hands through has now become the soft shaven head that I love even more...

And I think how different I must look to him...
My body carried and gave birth...4 times...
My hair that went from brown to blonde...:)
My face isn't 20 years old anymore...
Photobucket
Our imperfections that we both have...
Those imperfections that we have come to love..

I think about how different we are here and now...24 years later...

And yet we haven't changed one bit..

I think about how we grew up together...

Yes grew up...not grew old...

I have been with him over half my life..

I love him more now then I did when we first got married...
Because I "know" him now...
I really didn't then..

I would marry him again...
And again...

I can only hope that my sons get to experience what we have experience...

True love...

I hear it everyday....many times a day...."I Love You"...
And I know he means it...

If you are married, would you marry your spouse again?

The Shower!

For those of you that missed it, Mocha's (my oldest son's fiance) Bridal Shower was this past Saturday.
I was to make my Strawberry Salad for 78 people!
And I did!
I bought 6 bags (3 lbs in each bag) of the chopped romaine, 4 pack (2 lbs each) of strawberries, 10 packs (1 lb each) of parmesan cheese, 3 large containers of mayonnaise, 1 quart vinegar, 1/2 gallon milk, sugar and poppy seeds. Whew!  It took me awhile to put it all together and when I was all said and done, I had 4 very large bowls and prayed that I had enough to go around!

When I go to the reception hall, the bridesmaids and some of her family were buzzing along getting the room ready!  Her Mom made herself "in charge" and kept telling me, "Java do this"...and "Java do that"...hmmmm that didn't go over to well but oh well....she always seems to treat me like this and I'm guessing its because she is older them me.

(Click on any picture to enlarge it)

So anyway, we had 1 1/2 hours to get the room ready!  And we did.
And before long, the room looked like this:
The food was ready to be devoured!  My salad was first on the table...I filled that pan up 4 times!!

The rest of the food was pasta salad, mozzarella skewers with tomatoes, chicken wraps, turkey wraps, baked ziti and fruit kabobs.

Everyone LOVED the salad and kept coming up to me for the recipe!

For dessert, there was a table full of homemade cupcakes in 3 different flavors: carrot cake with cream cheese icing, chocolate with peanut butter icing and vanilla with chocolate icing.
We ate first and then it was time to open the presents!  And boy did she have presents to open!
They did the strangest thing to open up the presents.
First they cleared off the table that the food was on.
Mocha stood in the middle...
....while one bridesmaid brought over a present....
....and handed it to another bridesmaid....
.....that UNWRAPPED it AND OPENED THE CARD....
....she handed it to another bridesmaid to write it down on a tablet who it was from.....
....who then handed it Mocha so she could hold it up and show everyone and thank that person...
....and then it was handed over to another bridesmaid to stack it on the table!
80+ presents were opened in less then a half an hour!
I have never seen anything like it before!
If you blinked...you missed 5 gifts!
It was unreal!
Mocha didn't open ONE SINGLE present!
Not one!
Strange huh??
Here is the end result:
Venti came at the end...to help carry everything!
Mocha and the flower girl:
After the shower I went back to my parents house where my Dad threw a "Man Party" for all the guys while the girls were at the shower.
There was an intense game of volleyball going on when I got there!
Venti and Grande
Tall:
Venti and his Groomsmen (including Grande and Tall)....3 are missing...including Short who didn't want to be in the picture!
All in all it was a great day!

Did I have enough salad?

I sure did!  Even some left over!

Next on the list....

The rehearsal dinner!

Meet Me on Monday!!

I will be doing a post about the Shower on Tuesday!  I have lots of pictures to share with you!

Welcome to the 11th edition of

2. How often do you pray?
3. What is your favorite kind of music?
4. What do you order when you eat Chinese food?
5. Would you rather snowboard in the winter or swim in the summer?
---------------------------------------------------------------
My Answers!

1. What is your favorite kind of doughnut?
My favorite kind of doughnut is the Old Fashion or Cake Doughnut!  They are plain but I love them!
2.  How often do you pray?
All the time!  Especially when I lay down at night.  Sometimes I'm so tired that I fall asleep before I pray and then I feel guilty the next day!

3.  What is your favorite kind of music?
I love pop music!  I listen to the same music that my boys do.  It's a good thing especially when we are in the car together!
4. What do you order when you eat Chinese food?
I am not a huge fan of Chinese food!  Everyone else in my family loves it and so when we do get it I order Chicken and Snow Peas with no water chestnuts and no carrots!  I usually share it with Grande because he gets the same thing and between the two of us, we don't eat very much of it!

5. Would you rather snowboard in the winter or swim in the summer?
Swim!!  This one was easy since I do not like to be cold and I love summer!!

Randomness

  • Mocha's bridal shower is this Saturday!  The latest count given to me from her Mom is 78 people!
  • Venti volunteered me to make my Strawberry Salad for the shower.  I have no idea how much salad I will need for 70 some people.  I'll be sure to thank Venti later!  :)
  • I also made 5 gift baskets for the shower that will be used for prizes for the games they will be playing!  I'll take a picture of them and post it with the shower pictures.
  • Venti called yesterday and asked me if I had a song in mind for the Mother/Son dance at the wedding.  I told him I didn't.....did he?  He said he likes Rascal Flatts, "My Wish" and The Pretenders, "I'll Stand By You".....I listened to them on Youtube......I cried.
  • Venti, Joe, Grande, Tall and Short are going for Tuxes on Friday afternoon!  I work and so I won't be able to go...:(
  • I can't wait to see how much 5 tuxes are going to cost!  I think Venti's is free....woohoo!
  • Speaking of jobs...I have been at my new job for 5 1/2 weeks now!  I have gotten used to standing and I do get to sit throughout the day so that isn't so bad.  I do like the job much better then the job that I left...its just very hard being away from home all day.
  • School starts in 12 days!  I cannot believe that Summer is over already.  I do not like the routine of school....homework, lunches, uniforms...ugh!  Tall will be a Senior and Short will be in 5th grade.  Grande will be a Junior in college!  He is studying Criminal Justice.
  • I haven't heard from Debi Scissorhands yet about my dress!  I am anxious to see it finished and to try it on!
  • Joe and I have been searching for a place to have the rehearsal dinner but we are having a tough time finding a place that will seat about 50 people...and on a Friday night!
  • I will announce on Friday's Blog Hop who won to be this weeks featured blog!
  • Joe and I went to a party at our neighbors house last Saturday.  We were the oldest one's there....and no one even noticed!  :)
  • Time to go and pack my lunch for tomorrow....turkey on a honey wheat sandwich thins (love those), sunchips and peaches....catch up on blog reading.....shower....watch Deal or No Deal....fall asleep to reruns of The Golden Girls.....exciting huh??

Never Growing Old

I saw an image today that scared me.

I am 3 1/2 figures from the right.

I've already gone through 7 of the 10.

That scares me.

Seeing an image like that makes me see just how short and precious life is.

I always used to smiled when my Grandma would say, "enjoy your life because it goes by too quickly"....

She knew what she was talking about.

I'd smile because I'd heard this saying over and over because she always said it to me.

And I never really "got it"....

I just smiled.

I'm still smiling....

Thinking about her...

I'm still smiling....

Because she was right...

I'm still smiling....

Because I am aware....that it goes by too quickly....

And so I don't take life lightly...

I savor every moment...every minute...every second....

Because I don't want to be figure number 10.....

Anytime soon....

Because it scares me...

And life shouldn't be about being scared...

Of dying...and growing old...

Which is why...

I'm not doing it...

I am never..

growing..

old...

Anyone joining me?

Tuesday Tips. Cancer Awareness.

I wanted to post a little something different today because I wanted to bring awareness to something that I had never heard of before until I was reading a post on a friend of mine's blog about a cancer that her Mom is dying from.
A cancer that I didn't even know existed.
A cancer that needs more awareness.
The more people that can spread the word means the more people that will know about it.....and the less people will die from it.

My friend is Michelle and her blog is Faith, Trust and a Little Pixie Dust.  Her mom is dying from Inflammatory Breast Cancer.  Never heard of it before?  Me neither and after I read about it I knew I wanted to tell everyone I know about it.

Please view the video below and tell every female you know.  You just might save someone's life!

2. What do you wear to bed?
3. Do you get regular manicures/pedicures?
4. Did you play any sports in high school?
5. Do you have an iPod?
---------------------------------------------------------------
My Answers!

1. What is your favorite dessert?

Ohhhhh I LOVE Crème Brûlée! I make it quite often! I will share a recipe with you soon!

2. What do you wear to bed?

I use to wear the matching 2 piece pj's sets...I had tons of them!  But for the last 4-5 years now I sleep in one of Joe's t-shirts.  In the winter I sleep in a long-sleeve t-shirt and a pair of capri sleep pants.  Nothing fancy...nothing matches...its all about comfort!

 3.  Do you get regular manicures/pedicures?

I wish!!  I have only every had 1 manicure and 1 pedicure in my whole life!  Can you believe it?  My feet are really ticklish and I just can't justify paying $50 when I can just paint my toes myself!

4.  Did you play any sports in high school?

I was a majorette all through junior high and high school.  That is a sport isn't it?  No laughing at my hair!  lol

 5.  Do you have an iPod?

I do not!  I'm probably the last person on the earth that doesn't have one!
