The "Call".....

I got the dreaded call yesterday from my boss....she said that if another opportunity comes up, I might want to take it as my job (and 2 others) are apparently being dissolved!  She didn't say when but I don't want to wait till the last minute and then be stuck without a paycheck so I need to find another job now.  Ugh!  Now what??  At my age its hard to find a job!  Heck any age right now is hard to find one!  I wasn't very surprised.  I'm in sales and that's a tough career right now.  I never like the job anyway...but it does pay the bills!

I wish I could stay in my pj's all day and do all the Mom stuff...blog for hours and hours...eat a donut salad for lunch and maybe turn on TLC's Baby Story!  Sigh.  I would love to be able to do that...and get paid!  But I know that's not a reality.   The government should pay stay at home Mom's!  Right?

I played the lottery tonight so maybe I'll win!  They said on the news that the chances of winning tonight's Powerball is only 1-in-195.2 million!  See...I could win that...right???

I have to work.  With 4 children (ok...3 if you don't count Venti who is on his own..but we are still paying his car insurance and cell phone...so yes..make that 4) two incomes today is almost necessary.  My salary pays a lot of bills.  Why can't I make Blogging a career??  Does anyone actually do that?  That would be my dream..to be able to do that.  I know I'm dreaming...but it doesn't hurt to dream...it just doesn't pay the bills.

So what does a woman girl do in her 40's?

I'd love to hear your suggestions!

I don't even know where to begin!

  5. Sorry to hear about your job - that sucks :-( I don't have any suggestions apart from being as proactive as you can. Start a jobhunting blitz and start saving a bit of money so you have a cushion if you end up needing it.

  6. It's a situation a lot of us are in who are at the moment secure in their jobs...but wishing they could stay home and eat the salad blah, blah, blah. Strange how in this life we have to pay to live - the system controls us all and in this economy looking for a job is not an easy thing to do. I got nothing except to say you're not alone.

  7. Oh, people TOTALLY make careers out of bloggling.

Look at douce.com Heather Armstrong has practically made an empire on it!

Also, The Nienie dialogues? Have you ever read her stuff? She was a stay at home mom of 4 kids until she and her husband were in a plane crash that burned over 80% of her body... She was a blogger before then, but her popularity EXPLODED after the accident. They put a call out for advertisers a couple days ago and I naiively asked for a price sheet. Minimum purchase was $65,000 to advertise on their page for 100,000 cpm!!!!!! I about DIED. No wonder they can shop at Anthropologie on a regular basis!http://nieniedialogues.blogspot.com/

  10. Hi Java, that is really really crappy news, I am so sorry you had to hear that. What about your modeling, could you do more of that? You are such a great one for advising all us hopeless cases on makeup, fashion and more, what about something along those lines? Maybe this gives you a chance, seeing as you did not like your job, to spread your wings and try something new that you might really enjoy.

  11. This is no fun for you...although the little warning you got may help (I got one hour notice!)Wishing you success in your next career, and if you figure out how to do it via blogging, will you let me know? (I came over from Robin at Your Daily Dose.)

  12. I completely feel ya on this, Java! I'm on a layoff at this time too, and the hubby is on disability. I go back to work in July...IF I'm not one of the cuts they're making in NJ. I would love to "get paid" to be a blogger too....if you find out how, let me know. LOL Good luck! It is hard looking for another job at "our" age, which is why I've stayed where I'm at. (sigh)

  13. That's terribly discouraging news. My own job-finding skills stink. But here's what I do know: you're clever, experienced and not afraid to take the initiative to start something new, and those things make for a great job-finder :)
