Meet Me on Monday!!

Welcome to the 16th edition of
"Meet Me On Monday!"

Blogging is a funny thing...we tell our most intimate thoughts for all to read and yet most of the time I find myself sitting and wondering, "who is this person!?"  I know them...but yet I don't know them!  I want to know who the person is behind all those words so I thought of a great way for all of us to "meet" each other!

Every Sunday I will post five get to know you questions that you can copy and paste into your own Monday post and we can all learn a little more about each and every one of us!!

"Its a great way to to meet new friends and for others to get to know me better....one Monday at a time!!!"....as quoted by the Chacogirl!! I will make this SIMPLE and FUN!!!

I will add a linky so we can follow who participates and get to know them better!!  Be sure to link the POST and not just your whole blog

Questions:

1.  How many TV’s do you have in your home?
2.  What is on your bedside table (nightstand)?
3.  How many pair of shoes do you own?
4.  Can you change a flat tire?
5.  Do you prefer sweet treats or salty treats?
---------------------------------------------------------------
My Answers!

1.  How many TV's do you have in your home?
Too many!  We have 10!  One in each bedroom, 1 in the family room, 1 in the den, and 4 in the basement and yes all are hooked up and get watched!
 2.  What is on your bedside table (nightstand)?
A phone book, a phone, an alarm clock, hand cream, tablet paper, two pens, a lamp, emery board and chapstick!
3.  How many pairs of shoes do you own?
I am not a shoe person!  I probably have about 10-15 pairs but I have about 3 favorites that I wear on a daily basis.

4. Can you change a flat tire?
Oh gosh no!  I wouldn't have a clue how to do it!  I guess its good to know but I have no idea!

5.  Do you prefer sweet treats or salty treats?
I definitely prefer sweet treats although I have my fair share of salty treats!

Success! A New Dress!!

I picked up my Mom who just happens to live next door at 10:30am and off we went in search of the perfect dress for the wedding!  Little did I know at the time that the search was indeed a search!

We pulled up to the first place and I guess I should have thought about it a little more because anytime the words "boutique" is in the title of the store name, one should know that its going to be pricey!  My Mom had a limit in her mind of what she wanted to spend because at this current time my Dad isn't working a lot because #1 he is a realtor and everyone knows what that means in today's economy and #2 he had 2 more stents put in his heart last Friday which now put him at 13 stents!  I just pray that he is okay everyday.  Anyhow my Mom "thought" she could get a dress for around $200.00.

Well the first "boutique" we went into the lady took us upstairs and showed all where the long gowns were.  The first price tag I looked at said $760.00!!  That's almost as much as Mocha paid for her Wedding Gown!  I explained to the sales associate that my Mom is on a fixed budget and needed to stay around $200.00.....well she looked at me like I had 4 eyes and said that she didn't have anything even near that price!

So we were off to the 2nd place and had to travel 45 minutes.  When we got there we were again taken up to the their 2nd floor (I don't know why these places put the Mother of the Bride/Groom dresses on the 2nd floor....I immediately explained that my Mom was looking for a dress for around $200.00....again I got the 4 eyes look and she said that no indeed did they have anything that price.  She said their dresses start at $500.00!  Sticker shock!!

By then it was 12:30pm and both of us were starting to get hungry.  My Mom has diabetes and so I knew she had to get something to eat soon.  We grabbed a slice of pizza and off to the 3rd place we went.

I knew this place was going to have something because it is the largest bridal store in a 50 mile radius!  When we got there the parking lot was full....until we realized that it was full because there was a parade going on and everyone parked there!  We finally found a parking spot down the street and walked a block down to the store.  I get up to the door and pull on it and it is locked!!  Locked!!!  I then looked at the sign with the store hours and it said, "Saturday...by appointment only!".....what!?   By appointment only!?  On a Saturday!?  Isn't Saturday like a designated shopping day??  And at the largest bridal store around!  Ugh!  So back we trekked to the car and by then we were getting discouraged!

Store # 4 had a selection of about 10 dresses....all in sizes 2 and 4!

Store #5.  My Mom had already been here 2 weeks ago but I suggested we try again because that is where Mocha got her gown.  We get there and it was very busy.  We made a bee line for the "Mother" dresses and I'm crossing my fingers as I'm looking through the selections.  I find 1 for her to try on and she finds 1 and both of them were priced at $208.00....I am very hopeful at this point!

She goes into the dressing room and tries on the one that I had found.  It looked nice on her but she said the material didn't feel very comfortable but she said that she would get it because she said that she was running out of time...and places!  As you can tell from the picture, she wasn't very thrilled with the dress!
I told her to try on the other one because maybe she would like that one better!
And she did!  She said it was comfortable and she liked the way that it fit!!
Her facial expressions are hilarious!
The sales associate went and got her matching shoes and a purse and the look was complete!

What made it even better was that since Mocha got her dress there, my Mom got $20.00 off the dress and 10% off the shoes!  Then the purse had a missing rinestone that was barely visible and so they took $10 off!  Her total for the dress, shoes and purse was $260.00!  Plus it didn't need altered!

It was a long day but I am so glad that she found something and the price was just right!  When we got home she was so excited to show my Dad!  She put it on and modeled it for him.  He said she looked beautiful!

Dress Shopping!!

I'm so excited its the weekend!  After a very long and tiring week at work, I am really looking forward to 2 days off!  My boss had her interview on Thursday for another job but they didn't want to pay her enough so she is staying....sigh...I'm not sure how much longer I can put up with her.  I do almost all of the work while she does nothing.  Its very frustrating.  Joe says that next week I shouldn't do the things that I've been doing and then she will realize how much I do, but it is hard for me to sit back and not do the things that need done!  Oh boy...guess I have a lot of thinking to do!

I'm heading out to go dress shopping with my Mom!  She hasn't gotten a dress yet for the wedding and asked me to go with her!  I'm excited to see her try on some dresses!  I'm taking my camera!!

Its hard to believe how quickly the days are going by and that 3 Saturday's from now it will be Wedding time!  We haven't gotten all the rsvp's back for the Rehearsal Dinner and so we aren't sure yet how many we will have.  Venti and Mocha are home for the weekend and we are going to do the seating charts for the reception later today!  That should be fun trying to figure out who is sitting with who!!

I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend!  I have an awesome giveaway coming up in Thursday's post!!

See you tomorrow for Meet Me On Monday!

I'll try and post the pictures from dress shopping later on today!

HAVE FUN!

My Morning...

My favorite part of the day is right after my alarm goes off (6:50am)....I love to lay there, snuggling in bed....with my cat!  lol....Ozzie who is my European Burmese always come up and cuddles with me before its time to get up and start the day.  As he lays there purring, the whole world stops in my mind....as I pet his soft ears I think about how much I would love to lay there 10 more minutes, but if I did that then my whole day would be thrown off.  Short would be late for school, I would be late for work....its just not worth it...but it sure is tempting!  I am just thankful to wake up everyday.

"When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength. Give thanks for your food, and the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies with yourself."

Tecumseh, Shawnee Chief (American-Indian Warrior, 1768-1813)

Update:
Work is going ok.  My boss (Carol) who started 2 weeks before me is totally clueless!  I am not exaggerating!  I do 80% of the work!  Its just the two of us and then a part-timer (Jamie) and its really frustrating that I am doing everything and she gets the credit for it. She even admits that she isn't cut out for the job.  I'm surprised they hired her because she told me that she and her husband owned a Subway and a Coffee Shop and BOTH business went Bankrupt!  Hummm....
Anyhow, Jamie suggested that we bring this to our bosses (Stacy) attention because its not fair that I do all the work among other things...and boy did we have a long list..well apparently they already knew the things that were going on because on Friday Stacy made a surprise visit and had Carol sign a 30 extension on her 90 day probation.  After Stacy left, Carol was so upset and said that she is looking for a new job.  Then yesterday she told me she has an interview tonight.  If she takes another job then I will most likely be asked if I want the Manager's position.  I do the job anyhow so I might as well, but then again I'm not sure if I want the responsibilities of the manager....sign....I guess I will just have to wait and see!  I'll keep you posted!

Tuesday Tips!! Fashion Tips Over 40!!

One of the most challenging fashion aspects for women over 40 is how to dress for the changes that are occurring.  Our bodies are in transition. Our lifestyles are changing. We may be becoming empty nesters, divorcing, starting new jobs.  As your body is changing, so must your clothes.  You have to learn how to flatter your body without doing a style overhaul.  And even if you are in the best shape of your life your body is physiologically changing, from thinning hair to ruddier, duller skin.

The key to dealing with the changes and being your best is to refresh your look.  Shoes and bags are the quickest way to update your look.  Women over 40 need to learn how to adapt trends that will work for them.  Most of all you need learn to not hang onto what worked before and undergo a  "style evolution" and learn to dress for your new assets.

Fashion and Beauty Fixes
Gravity takes its toll on women of a certain age, but fashion tricks can camouflage most of these problems:
  • Wrinkled neck - Stand-up or turn-up collars are a great way to cover that area and bring focus to the face.
  • Thick in the middle - Add jackets and pieces that will give you shape.
  • Thinner hair- Your hair has to suit you. Get a fresh cut. Shorter hair gives more of a lift and the variety of new products can improve your hairstyle.
  • Focus on shoulders and legs - They are the slowest to age.  That doesn't mean wearing miniskirts, but you can bring attention to legs with a knee-length skirt and sexy shoes.
  • Change in coloring - Lighten up!   One tip is to always wear a bit of white close to the face. Soft colors -- pale pink, white, beige, ice blue -- bring light to the face.
Get Started Looking Your Best
  1. Look at mature television and movie actresses you admire and emulate their look.
  2. Don't be afraid to experiment. By the time you are 50 you have some sense of what your style is. You probably have the basics down and now it's time to add pizazz like adding bold glasses or wearing a collar turned up.
  3. Recycle pieces from your closet (with caution).  Some trends can come back and you can revisit them with a twist.
  4. Dated Sunglasses?  Get rid of them!  Big is in, so you should have some that are large with wide sides.
  5.  Get a new purse!  We are seeing a lot of women over 40 out there with very dated looking purses. Ladies, wake up and get a fun new bag!  Oversized is in and will perk up your outfit and hip factor instantly!
  6. Make up!  Too little...too much...just right?  The bad: Too much eye-liner, frosted lipstick, blue eyeshadow. Too Little: Not wearing makeup is just as bad as too much. At least, please use under-eye concealer, a natural lipstick and  draw in your eyebrows. Just right: You should be natural looking but still wearing make-up.  That means blush, lipstick, mascara, eyebrows, etc….  Yes it’s work, but its worth it!
  7. Speaking of mascara...do NOT wear mascara on your bottom lashes!!  It highlights crow's-feet. And dark circles. And it just generally looks bad. Coat your top lashes with the blackest black  mascara you can find—"it will make the whites of your eyes look clearer and whiter.  Don't   forget your curler!!  Curling your lashes is the easiest thing you can do to make your eyes look  bigger—and therefore younger!!
  8. Skip the jean skirt!  Do you still have a jean skirt from years ago? Are you still wearing it? Toss it and get a great pair of dark jeans instead.
  9. Get some chunky necklaces!   This is the year of the chunky and large necklace.  Keep your tiny one in your jewelry box for now.
  10. Boring coat?  If your outer coat is boring, you’re missing some fun. Your outer coat is where you should show your personality. If you find one you like, buy it and then enjoy all the compliments that will come your way!

Questions:

1. What is your favorite all time movie?
2. How often do you go over the speed limit?
3. What really gives you the creeps?
4. What is your favorite snack?
5. Would you rather be a dog named Killer or a cat named Fluffy?
---------------------------------------------------------------
My Answers!

1. What is your favorite all time movie?
My favorite movie has to be National Lampoons Christmas Vacation.  I watch it every year while I'm wrapping Christmas presents and it makes me laugh every time!

2.  How often do you go over the speed limit?
Oh boy....well after getting a ticket for "obedience to a traffic control device" ....a fancy name for a speeding ticket in July, I always go the speed limit....well maybe except for on the highway..then its just a little bit over!

3.  What really gives you the creeps?
Someone touching my food!!!  If I see it...then I can't eat it!  If I'm at a restaurant and I see my food being prepared and they aren't wearing gloves...I can't eat it!   Or if someone is dishing out a dessert and then they lick their fingers and then do the same thing to the next slice!  Blah!  I can't eat it!
 4.  What is your favorite snack?
Chips and dip!  I never get tired of it!

5.  Would you rather be a dog named Killer or a cat named Fluffy?
Fluffy!  I am very prissy and such a girly girl!  Although not all Fluffy's are innocent!  :)

A Motivational Story....

I found this story and thought it was very inspirational. I did not write it, but I wanted to share it with you:

A wonderful motivational story for any age…..

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder.

I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that that lit up her entire being.

She said, "Hi, handsome. My name is Grace. I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?" I laughed and enthusiastically responded, "Of course you may!" and she gave me a giant squeeze.

"Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?" I asked.

She jokingly replied, "I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, have a couple of children, and then retire and travel."

"No seriously," I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.

"I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!" she told me.

After class we walked to the student union building and share a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this "time machine" as she shared her wisdom and experience with me.

Over the course of the year, Grace became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.

At the end of the semester we invited Grace to speak at our football banquet. I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor. Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, "I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know."

As we laughed she cleared her throat and began: "We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. "You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it!"

"There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight. Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding the opportunity in change."

"Have no regrets. The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets."

She concluded her speech by courageously singing The Rose. She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives. At the years end Grace finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago.

One week after graduation Grace died peacefully in her sleep.

Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be.

Lessons:

1. You are never too old to learn.
2.  Laugh and find humor everyday .
3.  Don't let change overwhelm you, let change help you find opportunities you may have never seen!

HAVE FUN!

A Wedding Update!

In case you missed it, you can read part 1 of Debi Scissorhands HERE and part 2 HERE.

As of last week, I had not heard from Debi Scissorhands and I was getting worried because 43 days had gone by since I had last heard from her!  I emailed her and asked her what the status was on my dress.  She wrote back that the dress was "fine".....hmmm...fine??  That isn't what I wanted to hear...so I wrote back asking her if the dress was done and if so, could I come and try it on?  She wrote back that the dress was not done, but she could "get it done" and that I could come over on Monday.  I was a little worried that she was going to rush to get it done.

So Monday Joe and I went over to Debi's....I stepped into the entrance of her apartment building and climbed the stairs to the second floor.  I reached my hand up to knock on the door but before my hand touched the distressed door, it magically opened and Debi was standing there smiling and ushered us into her home.

Right this way.....I walked around the corner and there was my dress hanging on the door jam as Debi was finishing steaming the wrinkles away.

There you be....let me know when you are ready....she said.

I looked up at the dress and it looked like a whole different dress. I almost forgot what it originally looked like!!

I slipped off my shorts and shirt....slipped the dress on....then I slide my shoes on...

PhotobucketJoe pulled the zipper up for me...

I twirled around to look at myself in the mirror...

It looked...

Perfect...

Well almost perfect...

It was a bit loose at the neck line....

I called for Debi to come it...

She appeared instantly like magic...

I said that it was loose at the neck line....no problem! Come back tomorrow and it will be all ready!

I said that I had to work, but Joe could come and pick it up.  She said she would have it ready.

The next day Joe went over to pick it up...paid her the remaining balance and she handed him my dress.

He text me at work telling me that he picked up the dress.

I couldn't wait to get home and try it on!

When I got home, I ran right upstairs so I could try it on.

Perfect...

Just perfect....

And to think I was worried...

Now I just hope it fits the same a month from now!

Its hard to believe my son....my baby...is getting married....in one Month!

The rehearsal dinner is all planned...
