Meet Me on Monday!!

Welcome to the 20th edition of
"Meet Me On Monday!"

Blogging is a funny thing...we tell our most intimate thoughts for all to read and yet most of the time I find myself sitting and wondering, "who is this person!?"  I know them...but yet I don't know them!  I want to know who the person is behind all those words so I thought of a great way for all of us to "meet" each other!

Every Sunday I will post five get to know you questions that you can copy and paste into your own Monday post and we can all learn a little more about each and every one of us!!

"Its a great way to to meet new friends and for others to get to know me better....one Monday at a time!!!"....as quoted by the Chacogirl!! I will make this SIMPLE and FUN!!!

I will add a linky so we can follow who participates and get to know them better!!  Be sure to link the POST and not just your whole blog!

Questions:

1.  Have you ever been on a cruise?
2.  What is your favorite way to eat eggs?
3.  What is your favorite reading material?
4.  Name all the pets that you have ever had?
5.  Were you ever a girl/boy scout?

---------------------------------------------------------------
My Answers!

1.  Have you ever been on a cruise?

No!  We were actually thinking that maybe for next years vacation we would take the boys on a cruise!  I've heard they are awesome and I really think the boys would enjoy it....and me too!

2.  What is your favorite way to eat eggs?

Egg salad on fresh bread!!  YUM!!

 3.  What is your favorite reading material?

I love reading books but have found that I don't have the time to read them anymore...so I would have to say magazines since they don't take as long to read as a book.

 4.  Name all the pets that you have ever had?

I have only ever had cats except for one guinea pig when I was in the 7th grade.  His name was Butterscotch.  All the cats that I have ever had were from past to present:

Sam, Barney, Madison, Riley, Ozzie, Chaz, Woody and Brody.

5.  Were you ever girl/boy scout?

Yes!!  I was a Brownie...then a Girl Scout...and one year of a Cadette.  I loved being one and definitely learned a lot of things.

Eastern State Penitentiary Photo Shoot!

Yesterday I had a photo shoot at the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA.  I had never been there before and so I didn't know what to expect!  The have ghost tours during the day and at night.  I can't imagine that place at night because it was super scary during the day!  The photographer that I went with had been there before and was trying to creep me out the whole ride there which was an almost 3 hour drive.

A little history about the Penitentiary, it was operational from 1829 until 1971. Notorious criminals such as bank robber Willie Sutton and Al Capone were held inside its unique wagon wheel design. Known as being the most expensive building built in the U.S. at the time, the Eastern State Penitentiary became a prototype in design to 300 prisons.
This system, used by the Quakers, was designed to force the inmates sent there to look inside themselves and find God. In reality, the system which placed inmates in complete solitude, drove many a sane man to madness.

Prisoners at Eastern State had a toilet, table, bunk and Bible in their cells, in which they were locked all but one hour a day. When the prisoners did leave their cells, a black hood would be placed over their head so they could not see any other prisoners as they were guided through the halls of the prison. Interaction and any form of communication between inmates was forbidden.
Inmates lived a life in mundane solitude and would only get a glimpse of sunlight, known as "The Eye of God" which came through a slit in the prison ceiling. In desperate need of human interaction, prisoners would tap on pipes or whisper through vents to each other.

If caught, the penalty was brutal.

The Water Bath
The inmates who broke the rules risked being dunked in a bath of ice-cold water then hung from a wall for the night. During the winter months, when this punishment was most popular, the water on the inmates's skin would form into a layer of ice before morning.

Iron Gag
The most deadly punishment was known as the Iron Gag and specifically designed for those inmates who refused to obey the no communication policies. An iron collar was clamped onto the tongue of the inmate, and then chained to his wrists which were strapped high behind their back. Any movement resulted in a tearing of the tongue and severe bleeding. Many inmates who suffered this torture died from loss of blood before their torment ended.

The Hole
Dug under Block #14, the hole was nothing but a pit in the ground where incorrigible inmates would stay locked, sometimes for weeks. There was no light, little air, and those thrown into its tortuous grip would receive water and a slice of bread, if they got to it before the rats and roaches.

While there I sometimes felt like there was someone right behind me....or feeling like there was someone touching me...and there wasn't.  A couple of times I thought I saw someone run past in a hallway or in a prison cell, but no one was there!

Here are some of the pictures:

Tuesday Tips: How to Make the Most of Your Life...

  1. Keep age in perspective. Never think of age as being anything but just a number. There are some things in life we have no control over, such as when we were born. Age is no more than a circumstantial detail, like the color of your eyes, or the names of your parents; it does not define who you are. There are other things that do--those things we do have control over, such as how we think and what we do.
  2.  Live and enjoy each day. There is always something positive or something to look forward to each day. Enjoy the sun shining on your plants, or movies you are going to see. Look forward to reading a good book, or meeting with friends for lunch.  You can do this at a supermarket, or even a department store or coffee shop.
  3. Don't waste your time thinking that you're too old to do this or that. As long as you have your health, you can do just about anything you find an interest in doing.  Just learn new things that you haven't learned before, don't worry if it's too "young," nothing is.
  4. Take care of your body. Take vitamins and eat healthy. Exercise at either a gym or at home. Dance to the music on a CD, as moving your body is great exercise. Get a full physical and visit your dentist at least once a year.
  5. The exercise aspect is vital. Our bodies need to move. They need to be used to their full range and ability every day. Tai Chi is a good form of movement that will provide this whole body activity but it's not for everyone. Explore physical activities to find one that you enjoy, makes you feel good after practicing, and that you can do every day. Hiking and swimming are also excellent options.
  6. Don't look back. Don't worry about what happened in the past. Live just for today. The one thing that no one can change is the past. What has been is over and done with. The future has not yet come, so all we have is today. So enjoy today, let the past go, and plan for the future.
  7. Keep your mind alert. Do crossword puzzles, learn a new language, or take up a hobby you were always too busy for.  Blog every day!  It will keep your mind alert!
  8. Keep up with the news.  By doing this, you always will be able to converse with most people. Be up to date on what is new in politics, fashion, and/or in computers. Learn about the new methods of treatments and the new drugs available so you can advise your family members, who might need the information.
  9. Be Optimistic. Try to avoid thinking negative thoughts as it will get you no place except sadness. Go out with a smile on your face, and enjoy the rest of your life as best as you can.
  10. Do something different every day. The local newspapers usually have a weekly schedule of activities. Find one that you would enjoy and go for it! Perhaps the museum or a flower show might tickle your fancy this week.

Questions:

1. Do you sleep with a night light on?
2. What do you drink with dinner?
3. Do you play the lottery? If so, how often?
4. How often do you go to the grocery store?
5. Would you rather travel back in time 500 years or travel forward 500 years?

---------------------------------------------------------------
My Answers!

1. Do you sleep with a night light on?

No!  In fact, my room has to be pitch black or I can't sleep!  We have room darkening blinds and everything!  When we go to a hotel or on vacation I have trouble sleeping because there is light coming in from somewhere!!
 2.  What do you drink with dinner?

Hands down it has to be either iced tea or diet pepsi....no options!

3.  Do you play the lottery?  If so, how often?

I only play when the jackpot is high!  That's probably why I never win!  :(
 4.  How often do you go to the grocery store?

Way too often!  Just about every day!  Its a bad habit that I need to break.  I never do a large order, but instead pick up things as we need it....I'd probably save a lot of money if I just got everything at one time!

5. Would you rather travel back in time 500 years or travel forward 500 years?

I definitely would rather travel back in time 500 years!   I would love to be able to see some of the history that happened way back then.  I think 500 years forward might be kinda scary!

The Weekend...

This was my first weekend in a long, long time that I didn't have anything to do!  It was heaven!  I especially couldn't wait to sleep in and so what do I do this morning....I lay there wide awake thinking about how I better get up and put my roast in the crock pot or it will never be done in time!  Sigh....

Venti and Mocha come home this evening from their Honeymoon!  I haven't heard one word from them so I'm anxious to hear how their trip was!  Venti has to work tomorrow because he doesn't have any more time that he can take off...I'm sure he will be so tried!  We won't get to see them until next weekend though because the airport that they flew in to is only about 20 minutes from their house.  Next weekend is my brother-in-laws surprise 50th birthday party and I'm hoping they come home for it.

Yesterday I kept thinking about how its been a week already that they got married. I wish I could relive it all over again....even all the tears!

Come back this evening for the Meet Me On Monday meme....I have some great questions this week!!
