Tuesday Beauty Tips!! The Story of Cosmetics!

Why do many lipsticks contain lead? Why does baby shampoo contain formaldehyde, a chemical proven to cause cancer in lab animals?

If you've ever read a label in the cosmetics aisle and, brow furrowed, wondered whether anyone out there (like the government, perhaps) is making sure all those ingredients are good for you, this short video is for you.

Cause, by the way, they're not.

Check it out:

Does this make you as nervous as it makes me?

Luckily, there are actions we can take to minimize our risk.

Support the Safe Cosmetics Act of 2010.

Buy from companies that have signed the Compact for Safe Cosmetics

Check the Cosmetic Database to find safer products.

Use less.

  7. Thanks for opening my eyes. I know there are a lot of stuff I can't pronounce...so it makes me leary of buying them. I am sure I am giving all of us cancer by some of the stuff here. I try to grow my own food, go to Farmer's market...and pick good soap and shampoos. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you can't get a product toxic free. Bunch of crap, I say.

  8. So scary. I didn't realize my lipstick had lead in it; and just think, I had just found the perfect shade after all that research! Now to begin the research of the natural cosmetics' company's shades, If they really are natural. Mmmm. Thank you for sharing this. I'm passing this info. on to my healthy living group and my teenage daughter.
