I do believe that it was God's plan that I stopped to say hi so that I was there to help him when he fell. I did not know the dog was going to run so therefore it was not my fault. It was a horrible thing to watch and I still can't get the image out of my head but I have learned to not have that sinking feeling of guilt when I think about him.
He is still in the hospital. It has been a week and a day and he hasn't really improved much. He is having double vision, he get confused about things, he can't speak a whole sentence and he has no appetite and is hardly eating anything. We are doubting the care he is receiving (or lack of) and I am calling tomorrow to speak to the Social Worker about it. He was on Morphine every 2 hours for the pain in his head but that didn't touch it. Now they have him on Dilata which is a narcotic too and as soon as they give it to him, he is knocked out which is somewhat good because then he can rest but I'm not sure if that is good for him or not. They did another Cat Scan this morning and we didn't hear what the results were yet. Every day we are hoping and praying that he will be better. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers!
On a positive note, my Mom who had broken her leg (or so we thought) went today to have her cast redone because a doctor in the hospital just happened to look at it when he came in to see my Dad and told her that her cast wasn't on right (it was put on by her Podiatrist because he is a friend of hers!).....so she went to an Orthopedic Surgeon today and he took the cast off and said that it was the worse cast he has ever seen and was even going to save it to show as an example of a "bad" cast....they did an x-ray and here it isn't even broken!! She left cast free and is able to drive which is wonderful because now she can take herself back and forth to the hospital which she is so happy about because she feels like she is an inconvenience (even though she isn't!)....my Dad actually smiled when she told him that they took the cast off!!
Thank you again for being such wonderful friends. Hugging you all!!!
Sending good thoughts and hugs your way.
ReplyDeleteJave: This is the first time I heard about your dad falling. I'm so sorry, but he looks like a very strong man, and I'm sure he'll be fine soon, but will say some extra prayers tonight, and when we go to church Sunday I'll light a special candle for him. What a handsome couple they make and they look so happy! I'll keep your mom in my prayers for a quick recovery also. Have a good weekend. Hugs, Dolly

When it rains it pours huh? I am so sorry for your Dad's accident but happy (sorta) to hear that your mom's cast was a mistake. That is quite a story my friend!
ReplyDeleteTake care of yourself for a change K?
praying so hard for your father and sending you strength for this most difficult time.
ReplyDeleteI would contact the hospital administrators (president of the hospital, everyone) We had to do that numerous times for my father-in-law when he broke his hip years ago. Unlike your Dad he had dementia and his care was subpar. Go as high as you can go in the hospital, make phone calls, write letters. Do it nicely but firmly, you WILL get results.
Prayers and hugs!! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, Java, I know it is scary seeing your Dad in so much pain! My daughter had a brain bleed, too, 7 years ago. She had surgery and recovered completely. Praying that your dad will have good doctors and nurses, and care. blessings, k
ReplyDeleteThank you for updating us. I wondered how he is doing.
ReplyDeleteRecovery from a head injury can be slow. It sounds like your dad has made some improvements since last week. Thanks be to God! And as for your mom, thank God once again!
Also ask to speak to the nurse manager or head nurse. And there's a charge nurse on duty every shift. Concerns about his care should be brought to their attention.
Take care, and God bless each of you!

Take care of yourself, and know we'll be back to see you again.
So sorry to hear about your dad. I do hope his recovery is swift and he receives the care he deserves. Glad your mom is doing well. Keeping all in my thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteLove your heart...so glad that you realize that you were in the right place at the right time to be able to help your Dad. Great news about your Mom's leg, too. God is sooo good. Please know how much we all love you!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update. Still praying for ALL of you!
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love the blogging community where folks from all over are lifting you up???? <3
Wow, happy news about your Mothers leg. I've been thinking about you so much sweetie. I was happy to read this post. Yes, you are loved. I have made some of the most amazing friendships through bloging. I am continuing to send prayers. Hoping your Father will be better soon xo.P.S. I never know which blog to use when I leave a note to you here so I have been using Katherines Corner instead of Gifts By Katherine. But either way, I am doubly blessed by your friendship♥
ReplyDeleteI have been watching my parents struggle with their health, so I understand. It is such a helpless feeling! I pray your Dad will heal swiftly and that you will have peace and strength. (((hugs)))

Sending positive thoughts for you and your Dad. Glad to hear your mother is up and running. You are doing the right thing by staying on top your father's care. It is important to advocate for the patient. It is tough but important to let all the care givers know that his family is around and aware of his care.
ReplyDeletePrayers of healing for your father, and comfort for you and your family, as well as wisdom to ensure he gets the necessary and appropriate care.
ReplyDeleteI am grateful for an update on your dad but sad that he isn't getting better yet.
ReplyDeleteHowever, how wonderful that your mom found out her leg wasn't broken after all and is cast free.
Gosh, I was sure hoping he was better. I pray he improves quickly. Great news about your Mom. Sad though that she was misdiagnosed so badly. Scary.

Sending you hugs. I have not been on blooger for awhile so I am sorry for not responding sooner. Truly sadden on the news of your dad. I hope he makes a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your mom doesn't have a broken leg nd can cmoe an go to see your Dad. But what an idiot of a doc to put a cast on a woman who doesnt even have a broken leg. The crap she must have endure.
I think you were meant to be there because what if you weren't there who knows what would have happened to your Dad. The dog could have taken off regardless who was there at the time. It was a blessing you were there to do what needed to be done quickly.
God bless to all!!
This is the first time of me reading about your Dad's accident & I'm sadden by the news. I sometimes on occasions like to stop by your blog to read about your intriguing adventures. Your blog posts make for a good read during breakfast. I will keep your Dad & family in my prayers during this trying time.

Java, My mother-in-law had surgery for a brain bleed and is fine now and I hope and pray you can be encouraged and that your dad will be fine soon. And don't feel bad...it wasn't your fault. As women, we all feel too guilty about everything. Debbie http://thriftygirlvintage.com
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about your dad's fall and pray he has a full recovery. Hang in there and try not to blame yourself. I hope your mom recovers as well. It is hard to have our parents age.
ReplyDeleteJava
ReplyDeleteI stopped by for the blog hop and then read your heartbreaking events with your dad. This is not your fault! Thank God you were there for your mom and dad because it sounds like it was only a matter of time before the dog would take off. Sending prayers from Colorado!

Sending positive vibes your way. I took care of my father for 8 months and would feel guilty over just about every little thing. Some things are out of your control and out of your hands. You obviously love and adore your Dad. It's the best thing you can give him right now, all your love and support. Will be thinking about you and your family.
ReplyDeleteStopping by to leave ♥ and prayers . Thinking of you xo
ReplyDeleteEeeeekkk, I've been totally swamped and haven't stopped by. Hoping things at the parents improve, sending good karma your way.
ReplyDeleteI read your post when you first published it. I was at work and couldn't leave a comment, but I do want to let you know that you are in my thoughts always, and I do hope your dad is getting a bit better. Much love.
ReplyDeleteIt is really hard to see our parents as frail in any way. I am sorry that your dad fell, but I am glad that you were there to help him.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping there would be a happy update about your Dad. I sure hope he's healing quickly.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kat
A new week ahead and you are not far from my thoughts. Sending hugs to you and yours xo
ReplyDeleteJava I hope as I write this that your dad is doing better. I tried to leave you a note when it first happened but after the 3rd try I thought it may end up posting multiple times, looks like it didn't even post once :( I wanted you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers, and to let you know that there was nothing you could have done that would have prevented the accident, its a blessing you were there to help your dad and get medical attention for him. I am soooo glad to hear about your mom not needing a cast at all, what great news for all of you, even your dad smiled at that! :) Please keep us updated, we all care about you and are here to chat whenever you need us. xoxox
